ASTROSIGNATURE OF JUPITER TRANSIT 2023

Jupiter begins 2023 in Aries
(entered on December 20, 2022) and makes a quick trip through the sign entering Taurus on May 16.  It goes retrograde at 15 Taurus 34 on September 4 and moves back to 5 Taurus 34 where it turns direct on December 30.

Jupiter in Aries is a placement that tends to be enthusiastic, energetic, adventurous, optimistic, independent, idealistic, and gives rise to mission-driven leaders or crusaders.  The down sides to Jupiter in Aries are the promising more than can be delivered, over-optimism, and the penchant for rash action, but all of these can be controlled with a focus on reality and practical common sense.  However, Jupiter in Aries’ self-confidence, belief in the basic goodness in humanity, and enthusiastic leadership are strong markers for progress and success.

The Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) and the Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are positively impacted by Jupiter transiting in Aries because of their inherent sense of adventure, urge to explore, and basic curiosity.  The Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) tend to be more stressed by the rapid movement and big plans put forth by Jupiter in Aries because they favor more planning and study before taking action.  Aries and Libra get the mixed effect, but the overall effect of a Jupiter transit is positive, progressive, and favorable as things work out better than expected or pure luck prevails.

At its best, Jupiter in Taurus is a placement of sound practical value judgment that Sue Tompkins calls “a stoic, pragmatic philosophy of life.”  It is linked to general good fortune materially but may also indicate feeling lucky and financially blessed (especially in difficult financial times).  It may be a good time to engage in sales, merchandising, advertising and branding, fund-raising projects, investing in minerals, or building/construction projects.  As with all Tauran planetary placements, Jupiter may be extravagant, over-indulgent, or have periods when too many resources are put into luxury item purchases, but the placement might also be generous with others in need.

Note that Jupiter in Taurus consumerism often leads to a house full of clutter or a collection of unnecessary possessions; on the other hand, if you already have a problem with “stuff,” it may be time to clean up and get rid of all the excess (clutter is very bad feng shui – your good fortune gets short-circuited around clutter, and a good clean-up will liberate it).  Since Jupiter in Taurus places such high value on money, security, stability, home, possessions, and luxury, its biggest pitfall is to judge others in terms of wealth and material possessions.

Note that the fixity of Taurus does not invite change or making changes, but Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Taurus (April 20, 2024) is likely to bring big changes, reversals, and/or significant life-changing discoveries.  The Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) and the Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) tend to be compatible with Jupiter’s beneficial, positive, practical, and values-oriented transit through Taurus.  The Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) are more likely to be stressed by Jupiter’s “too much, too soon” timing and situations that need to be sorted, organized, and evaluated before something positive can evolve.

Taurus and Scorpio get the mixed effect but are inclined to do the work and research necessary to get to a secure and safe personal space.

When Jupiter goes retrograde, anticipated growth or progress is slowed or seems to enter a period of stagnation; thus, optimism and hope decline as reality sets in and you realize you will need more time for success to materialize.  Business tends to slow, profits may be disappointing, and a period of deflation evolves.  Since Jupiter is essentially a benefic planet, this time of slow growth may be positive and good because it gives you time to do developmental work or to lay a more solid foundation for growth (skills, education, business structures, career experience, beliefs, advertising, building reputation to give a few examples).

It can be a time of introspection causing you to see greater potentials and more options than you originally envisioned.  Losses in the area transited by Jupiter may send you inward for strength through beliefs/religion.  In addition, it may be a time of learning and achieving small successes that boost your self-confidence and self-esteem.  The keyword for Jupiter retrograde is RESTORATION – back up a little bit and apply practical common sense to restore your sense of having control and being competent to meet the challenges of the retrograde period.
